Deputies: Copper thieves target cell phone towers

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said someone is targeting several cell phone towers in part of southern Greenville County to get their hand on copper cables.

Greenville County deputies said between March 20 at 8 a.m. and March 26 at 2:30 p.m., ground bars and copper cable were stolen from the fenced-in area around five towers in the Piedmont and Simpsonville areas.

Deputies said the thefts were valued at between $400 and $4,500 from each tower.

The targeted towers were the Verizon Wireless towers at 160 Collins Rd. in Piedmont, 160 Nelly Ferry Rd. and 1101 Hwy. 418 in Simpsonville, 36 Union Church Rd. in Greenville and the AT&T tower on Bracken Road in Piedmont.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity at cell phone towers or has information on the thefts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.
