GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police said thieves went on a crime spree in a Greenville strip mall, breaking into three stores and getting away with cash while leaving a lot of damage behind.

The thefts happened at Augusta Commons at 2222 Augusta St.

Greenville police believe there may be a reason those businesses were targeted simply because of the bizarre way thieves broke into two of the stores. The thieves didn't even try to enter the front door of those stores - they broke in through a vacant store and went through the walls, investigators said.

"The door to the vacant business was jimmied open, once they were inside they were able to get to businesses on either side of it," said Jonathan Bragg with the Greenville City Police Department.

The thieves entered the Muse Shoe Studio and 4Rooms furniture store through the walls, police said. They said the damage of busting through walls alone is more than $700.

The Muse Shoe Studio said the burglars stole more than $2,000 cash that was inside the register and in money bags.

Police believe the same thieves also broke into Gantt's Uniform Outlet store a few doors down. The owner said thieves pried their way into the front entrance with a yellow crowbar, but they only got away with a few rolls of quarters.

No suspects have been named at this time.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call Crime Stoppers 864-23-CRIME.
