Joseph "Matt" Whitehead (Greenville Co. Detention Center)
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
About a month after deputies said two Upstate men were wanted in connection with the theft of power tools from a Sears store, one of the men was arrested.
According to the Greenville County Detention Center's online jail records, 33-year-old Joseph "Matt" Whitehead was arrested by the South Carolina Highway Patrol on Tuesday.
Jail records show he was arrested on charges of failure to stop for police, driving under suspension and two other driving-related offenses.
Spartanburg police said in early March that Whitehead, along with 38-year-old Ronald "Chad" George, were wanted in connection with a February shoplifting incident at the local Sears.
According to police, the suspects were confronted by a loss prevention officer in the parking lot, and in their attempt to get away, dragged the man 20 feet on the pavement with their car. The employee wasn't injured.
Greenville County jail records show Whitehead is being held on a Spartanburg County shoplifting hold, charges on which Spartanburg police said he and George were wanted in connection with the Sears theft.
If you know of George's whereabouts, you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME SC.
