An 8-year-old boy almost lost his arm after his family's dog attacked him in Westfield.
Animal control says the boy got his arm caught in a fence at his home on Day Avenue Tuesday night.
According to animal control, the bull dog attacked him and hit a major artery.
The boy underwent surgery at Baystate Medical Center and can now move his fingers.
The father took the dog to be euthanized and tested for rabies, which is standard procedure.
The boy's father released a statement to CBS 3 Springfield that read in part:
"First and foremost we would like to thank all the people who have sent their thoughts and prayers from our local community and from around the nation.
