SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A clerk was injured after she was pistol-whipped by one of two robbers Thursday evening, according to deputies.

The robbery happened about 6 p.m. at the Fuel Stop near the corner of Cannons Campground Road and Idlewood Drive.

Lt. Tony Ivey, of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, said the clerk at the store told investigators that a man and woman entered the store. He said the clerk struggled with the man, who was armed with a gun.

The deputy's report said the clerk was able to rip off the man's orange ski mask during the struggle.

The clerk was hit in the head with the gun, and the man fired a shot before fleeing the store, Ivey said. Deputies said they found a lot of blood in one area of the aisle and merchandise strewn about the store from the struggle.

The pair escaped with nothing, Ivey said. The clerk told deputies he saw them flee in a gold Chevy sedan.

Ivey said the clerk was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about the hold up is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC (888-232-7463).
