GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A popular eatery across the street from the Haywood Mall in Greenville caught fire Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters said a blaze fully engulfed the Jason's Deli on Woods Crossing Road, starting about 3:30 p.m. They said it started on the roof from a compressor unit, with heavy smoke pouring from that could be seen a few miles away.

Within about 10 minutes, crews had the fire contained in an effort to keep it from spreading throughout the building.

About an hour after it started, firefighters continued to put out hot spots. The restaurant will not be operational until further notice, firefighters said. There is no word what sparked the blaze.

Employees and customers got out safely.

Police had Woods Crossing Road closed at Haywood Road while firefighters battled the blaze.
