KNOXVILLE, TN (WIS) - 11th ranked South Carolina belted a season-high 21 hits in a 19-2 win over Tennessee Sunday to sweep the weekend series.
The Gamecocks improve to 26-7 and 8-4 in the SEC while the loss drops Tennessee to 13-17 and 3-9 in league play.
South Carolina finished the weekend with 36 runs and 45 hits in three games against the Volunteers. The 19 runs on Sunday were the most in a game for Carolina since they scored 24 against College of Charleston in 2011. They were the most in a SEC game since scoring 20 in 2010 against Alabama.
Sophomore left-hander Jordan Montgomery worked four scoreless innings with no walks and a pair of strikeouts in his first appearance in a month. Senior right-hander Colby Holmes pitched the final five innings to earn the win and improve to 4-2 on the year. He allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
Carolina's 21-hit afternoon featured six multi-hit games for the Gamecocks. Both Grayson Greiner and Max Schrock went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and four RBI apiece. LB Dantzler went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI, Brison Celek was 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs and Sean Sullivan and Chase Vergason added two hits apiece also.
South Carolina is back in action on Tuesday hosting The Citadel. First pitch at Carolina Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
