HONEA PATH, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Honea Path police are investigating a shooting that injured a man on Sunday.

Investigators said one person was shot in the back on Chiquola Avenue and was taken to AnMEd Hospital.

Police Chief David King said the shooter fled the scene and was later located at his mother's home in the county.

King said they arrested Dusty Ricky Dean Ashley, 51, and was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.

Police said Ashley and the victim were arguing and fighting about a drug-related incident when the victim was shot. King said the victim is expected to be okay.

King said they found Ashley's gun in a brushy area along Saluda Street as Anderson County Sheriff's Office search dogs looked for the tossed gun.

Ashley was a police officer in Honea Path in the late 1980s, according to King. King said Ashley was also employed with other Upstate law enforcement agencies. Lt. Tony Tilley with the Anderson Police Department said Ashley was also employed by their department at one point as well.
