School district officials said a dead bat was found by a student at East End Elementary School on Monday morning.
John Eby, spokesperson for the School District of Pickens County, said the bat was located in the Easley classroom about 10 a.m.
He said the student let a teacher know, who made sure all of the students washed their hands. Eby said a custodian disposed of the bat and disinfected the classroom.
Students did not report coming in contact with the animal, according to Eby.
A contractor is scheduled to examine the school Monday to discover how the bat got inside and prevent it from happening again.
Eby said parents were notified about the discovery and will be contacted with updates if necessary.
