Man dies in Greenville accident while helping dog

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident in Greenville County on Monday.

Coroner Mike Ellis said a man was killed while trying to help his dog near the intersection of White Horse Road and SC 253 at about 8:30 p.m.

Ellis said a man who lives on White Horse Road walked across the street to a pizza restaurant when he noticed his dog had followed him and was in the in the middle of the road.

Ellis said the dog got hit by a car and the man ran back into the road to take care of his dog when a car hit the man.

Ellis said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office identified the man as 55-year-old Darryl Harris. Ellis said Harris died of blunt force trauma.
