Many big names from television, film and the sports world will play in the 13th Annual BMW Charity Pro-Am this May.
Event organizers held a media day on Tuesday to announce the May 16-19 tournament's scheduled events and some of the celebrity and amateurs competing in the four-day event.
Wayne Gretzky and his wife Janet Jones-Gretzky, George Lopez, Kurt Russell, Edwin McCain, Michael Pena, Javier Colon and Brad Brownell will be competing in the Pro-Am again. For the first time, Craig T. Nelson will take to the greens as well.
Several competitors from 2012 are also returning including Anthony Anderson, Steve Azar, Mark Bryan, Andy Buckley, Jay DeMarcus, Jeffrey Donovan, Dean Felber, Oliver Hudson, Danny Masterson, Terry O'Quinn, Joe Don Rooney, Wyatt Russell, Paula Trickey, Gary Valentine and Patrick Warburton.
The May 16-19 tournament raises money for numerous charities from ticket sales. The tournament raised $643,571 for 27 Upstate charities last year.
The celebrity and amateur players compete against and with professional players, during the four-day, better-ball competition, rotating between the three courses. In 2012, Australian professional golfer Nick Flanagan won the tournament.
The tournament is played at Thornblade Club, Greenville Country Club's Chanticleer course and new this year, the Reserve at Lake Keowee.
Also new this year, a world record attempt will be made at the BMW Performance Center on May 11. The record will be an attempt to break the Guiness World Record for drifting in a BMW M5 sedan by Johan Schwartz, one of the center's driving instructors. The current 6.95-mile record was set in February.
