Palestine man arrested for Monday night hit-and-run

The Palestine Police Department is continuing to work on a Hit and Run type accident that took place in the 100 block of West Palestine Ave.  

Around, 11 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the 1100 block of West Palestine Ave. in reference to a possible intoxicated person.  Officers arrived on the scene and located a male subject lying in the roadway. Officers were able to determine that the man was severely injured. The injuries and the fact that the man was in the street suggested that the man may have been hit by a vehicle however there was no vehicle in the area.

With an anonymous tip and help from the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, Palestine Police located 20-year-old David Orihuela at his residence outside the city limits of Palestine. Police also located Orihuela's Toyota vehicle.  After some additional investigation. Mr. Orihuela was arrested for Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death. Mr. Orihuela is being held in the Anderson County Jail on a $100,000 bond. 

The victim. who was not identified at the time of the initial incident, was transported to a Tyler hospital for treatment. The victim was listed in serious but stable condition at the time of his transport.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. Police feel that alcohol may have been a factor in this incident.  Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
