CHESNEE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Spartanburg County Coroner has identified the pedestrian killed when he was hit by car in Chesnee last week.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger said 59-year-old Douglas Henson was struck by a car while walking down Parris Bridge Road late at night on April 1.

Troopers said Henson was illegally in the roadway when he was hit. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Initially, investigators said Henson did not have identification on him taking them longer to both identify him and contact his family. Clevenger said Henson was identified using his fingerprints, tattoos and scars with the help of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office and Spartanburg Public Safety Department.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
