Upstate furniture dealer pistol-whipped during robbery

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police said a local furniture dealer was lured to a home on Westover Drive Monday afternoon to buy a used furniture set but instead he was robbed.

The man said someone called him looking to sell a bedroom set after seeing his ad in the newspaper, police said.

Police said when the victim arrived at the home, a man told him the furniture was in a back shed.  Once there, the man put a gun to the victim's head, pistol-whipped him and took all of his money, police said.

Police said the house to which the victim was lured was vacant, and the shed was empty.

"This was a setup and the guy actually didn't live there," said Capt. Art Littlejohn with Spartanburg Public Safety Department.

The victim called 911 after the attack and is recovering.

Police recommend people try to follow up, maybe investigate a little on their own to see if people buying and selling items are legitimate.

The Spartanburg Public Safety Department said if you have any information about the robbery, call Crime Stoppers at 864-58-CRIME.
