SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Simpsonville City Council members made the decision Tuesday night to table a texting ban ordinance for now.

Law enforcement and city council members feel texting can fall under their current negligent driving laws already on the books.

"We feel like it's better that the state take up this rather than the local jurisdictions because then it's a statewide law," said Simpsonville Police Chief Steve Moore.

City council members did tell us they feel that it's an important issue, but stressed it should be something to come from the state.
