GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville County Coroner Mike Ellis said two people were found dead in Greer Thursday.

Greer police said a man and a woman were found in a backyard along West Church Street, with a gun near their bodies.

Officers said a neighbor found the bodies about 4 p.m. and had heard arguing at the home earlier in the morning.

Police said there is no threat to the public, but neighbors said the news has shocked the community.

"I've never heard anything like this in this neighborhood, all the time since I've been here," said Kendal Laue, who lives in the neighborhood. "This is a shock to me. I just walked down and I just heard about it."

Lt. Jim Holcombe said the police department is two blocks away.

"We're not used to it at all occurring in the city at all," Holcombe said.

The coroner's office said they have determined both deaths were suicide. Coroner Kent Dill said they believe the man killed himself before his wife killed herself. He said the two were married for years.
