TAYLORS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers said they have Roger Bowen in custody after 86-year-old Ted Knapp was hit in Taylors Friday morning and the car left the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the hit-and-run accident happened about 2:45 a.m. along East Lee Road.

Troopers said they were looking for a two-door 2003 Honda Civic, gold or champagne in color, that may have damage on the left front and or left side, and is missing the driver's side mirror as a vehicle of interest.

Bowen is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with great bodily injury. A judge set his bond at $50,000 Friday night.

Those who live in the East Lee Road neighborhood said Knapp has Alzheimer's disease and would often wander off. They said he's a WWII veteran who recently moved to the area and relatives were taking care of him. Troopers said Knapp was taken to the hospital following the accident.
