TAYLORS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Fire crews in Taylors were forced to descend down a 60-foot well to save a little girl who was trapped at the bottom Saturday.

Family of the 8-year-old girl said she was outside with her grandmother before she fell at a home on Groce Meadow Road in Taylors. The grandmother went inside for a few minutes and returned outside to find the little girl missing.

The girl was able to call to her family for help. They even attempted to rescue her before crews arrived.

"She was on a solid surface; the bottom of the well was rock," said Fire Capt. Bryan Bailey. "(Family members) were trying to hoist her with the garden hose to bring her back up, but it was squeezing her, causing her too much pain."

Authorities said the family has been in the process of filling up the well.

When Lake Cunningham Fire Department first responders arrived they performed a rope rescue that took about 40 minutes to complete. Responders said the girl was communicating with them the whole time and was calm.

After being rescued, the girl was taken to the hospital with minor cuts and bruises.
