SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a pedestrian was killed after she was hit by a car that left the scene during a wreck early Monday in Spartanburg County.

Troopers said it happened about 4:20 a.m. on Lake Forest Drive at Torino Drive.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said 23-year-old Jacquelyn White of Spartanburg died about an hour after the crash at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne said they identified a person of interest and the car involved in the wreck after the driver fled the scene. The suspect was driving a Cadillac, troopers said.

The MAIT team is investigating the crash.

Troopers later arrested the driver, 25-year-old Colleen Casey. According to jail records, she was charged with hit and run involving death.

Friends of the victim say both Colleen Casey and Jacquelyn White were friends. The two of them are seen together in Facebook photos.

Troopers shut down the area near where the wreck happened and asked for drivers to avoid the area until their investigation was complete. Lake Forest Drive remained closed to all traffic after 9 a.m.

Casey is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center. She was denied bond in court on Tuesday.

Following her bond hearing, Murray Glenn, spokesperson for the solicitor's office, said two 911 calls were made after the wreck. He said the first call was accidental and during it, Casey and her boyfriend were heard talking about drinking and driving.

The incident remains under investigation and the solicitor said they are looking into filing additional charges.
