ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson police and troopers were investigating a serious crash Monday afternoon after a car and tractor trailer collided, leaving the car stuck underneath the truck.

The crash happened before 4 p.m. at Pearman Dairy Road and Murray Avenue in Anderson.

A FOX Carolina photographer at the scene said the driver was removed from the car and taken to AnMed Hospital by ambulance.

Deputy Coroner Don McCown said the driver was critically injured, so the life flight helicopter was brought in to take the driver to Greenville Memorial, but they thought it would be more stable to take her by ambulance.

He did not have info on the driver's condition other than that it was serious and it took quite a while to remove her from the car.

Authorities have not said how the wreck happened. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and State Transport Police were investigating the wreck.

The crash happened in front of the Walgreens at the heavily-traveled intersection, prompting a large crowd to gather at the scene.

McCown said the car's driver was alone and the tractor trailer's driver was not injured.
