GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Deputies said a man wanted on several bench warrants was spotted outside of the Greenville County Detention Center Thursday and tried to run away before being caught by officers.
Jonathan Smith with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office said a passerby spotted a man in the Law Enforcement Center parking lot getting into a car that he knew had active warrants and notified a deputy.
When the deputy went to ask the man if he had active warrants, the driver of the car told him he did have active warrants, so the deputy asked to see his license to check, Smith said.
At that point the man, identified as 29-year-old Gregory Miller, took off running, pushing the deputy as he tried to get away, Smith said.
FOX Carolina reporter Ashley Daley was in the parking lot at the time of the incident reporting on another story. She said she saw the man try to run from deputies after they approached him and at one point, a deputy shot him with a Taser, but he continued to run away.
Daley said Miller ran across the street, circling back towards the LEC before he was apprehended.
Smith said Miller was charged with third-degree assault and battery. Jail records show he was wanted on multiple failure to appear, habitual offender and failure to pay support warrants among other charges.
