GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Cherokee County coroner said a man died a few days after he was shot in the head outside of a Gaffney gas station.

Coroner Dennis Fowler 29-year-old John Quinton Rawlinson was pronounced brain dead Friday night by doctors at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Rawlinson was shot in the head while pumping gas at the Kangaroo Express located at 100 Shelby Highway in Gaffney about 9:20 p.m. Monday, Fowler said.

Fowler said Rawlinson was airlifted from the scene and had been in the hospital since the shooting. The coroner said an autopsy will be ordered to assist with his investigation of the homicide.

After the shooting, Cherokee County deputies sought after and arrested 27-year-old Brian McGill. McGill was charged with attempted murder Tuesday. Deputies later said they upgraded the charge to murder following Rawlinson's death.
