SAN FRACISCO, CA (FOX Carolina) -

The San Francisco 49ers selected Upstate native and South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore in the fourth round of the NFL draft Saturday.

The 21-year-old entered the draft after suffering a second devastating knee injury in the 2012 season.

He will join Frank Gore in the backfield. Gore suffered a similar knee injury while playing for the University of Miami.

Lattimore won several awards for his performance on the football field for the Gamecocks, and was a scoring leader for Byrnes High School before that.

Lattimore was the 131st overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft.
