Holyoke firefighters battle 9 brush fires Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

We have an update on the brush fires that broke out Tuesday afternoon.

The Holyoke Fire Department now has responded to 9 brush fires since 4:30 pm.

Firefighters say seven may accidentally started by a passing train.  Two others were said to be intentionally set in a wooded area of Beaudoin Village. Most have now been extinguished.

The fires were located near a charter school, medical center, and the Holyoke Mall.

Lt. Thomas Paquin said it appeared that a passing train's wheels were sparking as it passed through the city.
