UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Union woman was charged with attempted murder after police said she was caught on camera shooting another woman.
Officers were called out to the scene at West Henrietta Street Wednesday afternoon after a reported shooting. Witnesses said the shooting happened on Tillman Street at about 3 p.m.
According to the Union Police Department report, a witness told investigators that he shot video of the entire incident.
That witness, Justin Stevens, lived nearby. He said he had been walking his dogs when he heard the woman yelling and he pulled out his phone to record whatever happened next.
"I wasn't expecting nobody to get shot. I was just expecting it to be a fist fight, but it just turned out the wrong way," said Stevens.
Police said the video showed 49-year-old Sherry McMorris pulling a gun from her purse and firing at the victim before being taken to the ground by people nearby. The victim suffered injuries to her leg, according to warrants.
Stevens said the victim ran up the street and another man at the scene grabbed the gun from McMorris. That man tossed the gun to the ground near Stevens' feet. He said he picked up the gun and tried to keep it away from McMorris, who came after him for the gun. Stevens said that's when police arrived. Both Stevens and McMorris were handcuffed, but Stevens said he wasn't involved and had the video to prove that.
Stevens said the victim came to his home Thursday morning to thank him for saving her life.
McMorris was charged with possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempted murder.
