ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Investigators in Anderson County said deputies fired shots at a suspect who appeared to try and run over deputies in a Ford F-150.
According to Chad McBride with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a tip about a stolen F-150 and then spotted the suspect driving south on Michelin Road on Thursday.
Deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the suspect led deputies on a car chase just along Highway 29 south, McBride said.
Deputies said the suspect turned off onto Cleveland Road. While traveling down Cleveland Road, deputies said the suspect ran off the side of the road where the pickup truck got stuck in a wooded area.
The pursuing deputies got out of their vehicles and began approaching the suspect's vehicle on foot. That's when, McBride said, the suspect was able to dislodge the vehicle and began driving toward deputies.
Fearing for their safety, McBride said the deputies fired at the vehicle and hit the suspect.
Deputies said the suspect was 52-year-old Ricky Clark. McBride said Clark will be charged with failure to stop for blue lights and attempted murder.
SLED is investigating the shooting.
