SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies in Spartanburg County said a six-hour standoff ended Thursday night after tear gas was deployed to get a man holed up inside a home out.

Lt. Tony Ivey with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a fight call between adult siblings at a home on Leawood Drive around 5 p.m.

When deputies arrived, a woman told them her brother, 47-year-old Jimmy Dill, had physically assaulted her during the past few days and she wanted it to stop, Ivey said.

When deputies tried to talk to Dill about it, he verbally threatened them, went back inside the home and barricaded himself inside, Ivey said.

Dill's sister told deputies he had a pistol and had fired a shot off earlier before they arrived. At that point, Ivey said Dill came to the front door and pointed the gun at them.

Deputies called in a negotiator and the SWAT team to aid in the standoff, which lasted six hours. About 11 p.m., Ivey said deputies launched tear gas into his home before entering and taking the suspect into custody.

Dill was taken to the hospital for examination and released. He was booked into jail on charges of third-degree assault and battery and two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person.
