GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A building off Pelham Road in Greenville County is under construction, but it will soon be the site of GREEN Charter School, which stands for Greenville Renewable Energy EducatioN.

"My oldest daughter goes to Greenville Tech Charter," Bridgette Stokes said.

She along with other parents lined up and signed in to get information about the school Thursday night.

"I like the smaller classroom sizes, the focus on education, the extracurricular activities," Stokes said.

Dawn Epps said administrators with GREEN Charter already accepted her daughter as a student.

"I'm a nurse and I see that it's going more and more to the math and technology and science and children need to go to college," Epps said. "She's a straight-A student in third grade. She's very bright, so I think she can keep up."

During the informational meeting, there was a science experiment for the children. Administrators said it's an example of what students and parents can expect in a classroom. They said the curriculum has an emphasis in math, science and being green.

"We will be offering electives for renewable energy needs," Adem Docmeci said.

He's the principal of GREEN Charter and said the focus is on children and their education.

"So, they will have more chances than other students," Docmeci said.

A FOX Carolina viewer sent a FOX Fuss email about the school, part of it is listed below.

FOX Carolina viewer: "I heard about this new GREEN Charter School opening on Pelham Road in Greenville... Please look into this and make our community aware."

During a FOX Carolina investigation a crew learned that Docmeci helped open similar charter schools in Florida and New York. His name is mentioned with what's called Gulen Movement. Fethullah Gulen is an Islamic scholar in Turkey whose work is compared to Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

According to his website, his message is peace and he encourages Turkish immigrants to teach math and science to the world. A FOX Carolina crew asked Docmeci about the movement.

"Here at the GREEN Charter School we're a public charter school. We are funded by the state are focus will be on renewable energy and we are here to serve the students," Docmeci said.

FOX Carolina talked to Wayne Brazell, the superintendent of the South Carolina Public Charter School District, and he released this statement:

"The school board vetted the Jacksonville, FL school which the Greenville school is modeled after. We talked to parents, students and those in the Florida community. We didn't find anything to be concerned about and there are no reports of Islamic teachings. We are delighted to have GREEN Charter School in Greenville."
