GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Gas price experts said the national average will continue to climb, though prices in the Greenville area declined a little last week.

According to GasBuddy.com, prices in the Greenville area were 0.3 cents cheaper than last week, averaging $3.12 per gallon Sunday.

Upstate drivers have not felt the rise like the national average, which rose 1 cent last week, according to the gas price reporting website.

Greenville prices remain 14.9 cents per gallon less than last month and nearly 32 cents less than a year ago. It is too soon to say if local prices will follow the rising national trend.

"The national average has begun to tip-toe higher in the last week, led by states in the Great Lakes and West Coast, where gasoline prices have crept up considerably in some areas over the last week," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.

DeHaan said he expects prices to inch up in the weeks ahead, with the highest increases along the West Coast.
