SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

In a competition to earn downtown Spartanburg retail space, the city announced seven finalists competing for the $12,000 grand prize.

Spartanburg's Main Street Challenge is looking for three entrepreneurs who will each receive $12,000 in support to open a business in downtown. The competition began at the start of the year.

After the selection committee sorted through nearly 60 applications, they narrowed the list to 19, then seven businesses, varying from an apparel store to a distillery.

The finalist will make final pitches to the committee at The Main Event on May 22 at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend the meeting, which costs $5 to attend.

The crowd will vote on their favorite business, which will receive the event's proceeds.

The three winners will also be announced at the event, located at The Showroom at 149 S. Daniel Morgan Ave.
