Road closed after landslide condemns 2 western NC homes

LAKE LURE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Authorities in a Rutherford County town have closed a Lake Lure area road to through traffic because of a landslide that condemned two homes.

Lake Lure police said the two homes on Tryon Bay were damaged in a landslide from recent rains.

In front of the homes, through traffic is blocked to anyone who is not a Tryon Bay resident or has a business in the area, police said.

Police said Tryon Bay will open for two-lane traffic from either direction from Memorial Highway up to the area of 177 Tryon Bay, 179 Tryon Bay and 173 Tryon Bay.

The road closure will remain until the homes are stabilized.

The Lake Lure landslide was not the only one of its kind on Monday after heavy rains left several western North Carolina roads blocked or closed because of sliding mud, rocks and trees.
