GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenwood police are investigating a drive-by shooting that left a woman covered in cuts after a car window shattered, spraying her with glass, after a girls' night out.

Police said the woman was a passenger in a car turning onto Blyth Road from Highway 34 about 3:50 a.m. Sunday when they heard a loud boom and the car was hit by at least one bullet.

There were several women in the car headed home after going out in Abbeville, police said. Officers said no one in the car saw the vehicle or shooter.

Police said the victim slumped over the drive shaft thinking she had been shot and the driver sped off to the hospital once the victim was hit, police said.

Police said at the scene of the shooting, they found numerous shell casings in the street in front of a convenience store. Officers said some of the bullets also hit the stop light control box on the northwest corner of the intersection, penetrating the box and damaging the internal controls for the stop and go lights.

When they reviewed the store's surveillance, police said they saw the shooter's dark-colored SUV follow the victim's car, a passenger fired shots, then speeds off turning east onto New Market Street.

Police have not yet identified the shooter.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
