SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate couple said they were pulled over by a fake cop.

The impersonator stopped a husband and wife, who don't want to be identified, at the intersection of Berry Shoals and Apple Valley roads in Spartanburg County. He later got away.

They both said the fake cop came up behind them flashing his lights and horn Wednesday night and came up to their window when they came to a stop sign. They said as the guy made his way to their car, they called 911.

"He got out of the car and came up to our car. I asked him what was the problem and he told me I had the problem. He claims I was going 15 miles over the speed limit," said the victim.

The victim said the guy then told them he was a police officer, but the impersonator didn't know dispatch would blow his cover over the phone with the man's wife.

If you have seen a silver or gray Hyundai with a dent across the driver's side of the car, you're asked to call the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office or 911.
