PELZER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson County Coroner Don McCown said the man who died after being pulled from a Pelzer waterway Friday afternoon suffered a medical event that ultimately claimed his life.

Anderson County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jacob Bowland said crews were called out to a possible drowning on the Williamston reservoir located behind Shorebrook subdivision.

He said they found two friends fishing in a deep cove, so smaller boats were sent to find them and were able to get the victim out of the water and into an ambulance to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

McCown said he was called to the hospital when the man later died. He was identified as Terry Keith Fricks of Pelzer.

McCown said preliminary findings indicate that a medical event caused the victim to fall into the water. McCown said the man was not in the water long enough for drowning to be a factor in his death.

McCown said an autopsy will be performed to determine an exact cause of death.

Bowland said the Department of Natural Resources was investigating the water accident.

FOX Carolina crews at the scene said authorities set up a staging area along Shorebrook Drive, which runs along the Big Creek One Watershed Reservoir.
