Postal service picking up food donations on Saturday

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

In an effort to "Stamp Out Hunger," local residents are encouraged to leave a bag full of non-perishable groceries at their mailbox on Saturday.

The United States Postal Service dropped off the bags earlier in the week in a drive to help feed the hungry through Harvest Hope Food Bank and other local food banks.

To participate, simply fill a sturdy bag with non-perishable food items and place them next to your mailbox by Saturday morning.

"This is our biggest food drive of the year," said Lorain Crowl from Harvest Hope Food bank. "And there is a serious need, thousands of families in Greenville County aren't sure where their next meal is coming from."

Last year's Stamp Out Hunger food drive gathered more than 225,950 pounds of food for Harvest Hope in just one day statewide, serving 120,235 meals in the Upstate.
