SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Chapman High School lost to Daniel High School's softball team in a playoff rematch Monday following a disputed final score in last week's game.

The South Carolina High School League suspended the Class AAA Upper State playoffs after Chapman petitioned the Seventh Judicial Circuit, disputing Tuesday's final score against Daniel.

Chapman was leading 3-2 Tuesday night in the sixth inning, when the game was suspended because of rain and lightning.

According to Chapman, the umpire told both teams that the game would be completed at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday but the teams were later informed that a mistake was made and that by rule, the game was over with Daniel taking a 2-0 victory. By SCHSL rule, a game is complete after five full innings.

The league intervened, freezing the playoffs and held a meeting Monday morning to determine how the teams would proceed.

According to Cathy McMillan, spokesperson for Spartanburg District One Schools, the league ruled to have the teams meet again at Daniel to replay the game.

Chapman fell to Daniel 2-1 on Monday. Daniel faces Union County next while Chapman will play Seneca on Tuesday.
