SALUDA, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Highway 9 in Polk County is shut down after a multi-car crash involving an overturned tractor trailer.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said the wreck happened near the Green River Bridge east of Saluda.

The highway was shutdown near State Road 1140.

Authorities said a hazmat team was called to the scene because of the truck's cargo. FOX Carolina crews at the scene said chemicals had leaked from the truck but authorities said they were not flammable.

Power crews and firefighters were also at the scene because of a dangling power line above the tractor trailer.

DOT said the highway would be closed until at least 5 p.m. so drivers should follow posted detour signs.
