GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man re-arrested after violating his bond was able to escape from officers on his way back to jail Monday, deputies said.

Cherokee County deputies said 26-year-old Shawmund Wray was picked up on a bench warrant after he did not comply with his home monitoring requirements while out on bond in an armed robbery case.

Wray was being escorted out of the Cherokee County Courthouse to be taken back to the county jail when he broke free and ran away, deputies said.

Wray got about three blocks away before a reserve police officer for Gaffney caught him in the parking lot behind Harold's deputies said. He was then transported to the county jail where he was also charged with escape.

Deputies said no one was injured during the escape, and they are reviewing the incident to see what can be done to deter escape attempts in the future.
