Some big changes are coming to one of Nashville's busiest and most high-profile neighborhoods.
Hillsboro Village is set to get a brand-new look, and it all started with a groundbreaking Thursday afternoon.
The Hill Center Acklen complex will include about 13,000 square feet of retail and 42 apartments, each with its own parking garage space underneath, near the intersection of 21st Avenue South and Acklen Avenue.
The project, expected to be complete in 2015, will look similar to a recent development in the 12 South area, which was designed by the same company involved now in Hillsboro Village: Hill Realty.
Traffic in Hillsboro Village is already busy and available parking spaces are sometimes rare, so that is only expected to increase as more people flock to the area.
Hill Realty CEO Jimmy Granbery agreed, and said the growing pains won't be easy.
"It will be a tough building site. We'll do a lot at night, a lot early in the morning, so that's just the way we have to do it. We did Green Hills the same way, and nobody ever knew we were there. We were bringing 40 or 50 concrete trucks down Hillsboro Road in the middle of the night," he said.
We don't know which businesses will fill the property, but all planners say is the largest space will be occupied by a restaurant.
