ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson County deputies were called to a house on Loblolly Drive early Monday morning after a man was shot multiple times, Coroner Charlie Bozeman said.

Bozeman said a 40-year-old man's girlfriend found him just after 3 a.m. EMS took the man to the hospital where he died around 4:15 a.m., Bozeman said.

Deputies said the man, Clarence Sullivan of Jackson Street in Anderson, was found in the backyard of the home.

FOX Carolina spoke with Sullivan's family at his home where they said his car had been vandalized with slashed tires, smashed windows, sugar poured in the gas tank and a threatening message keyed into his car. Sullivan's family said they believe the damage was connected to his death.

Deputies said the damage to the car was reported in April, which is not registered to Sullivan. They said investigators have not drawn a connection between his death and the vandalism.

Investigators were on the scene interviewing witnesses where a neighbor heard gunshots and called 911, deputies said. Deputies said they have not yet determined a motive or identified a suspect in the shooting.

Capt. Garland Major with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said neighbors reported seeing a man running through the yard at the time of the shooting, wearing a gray hoodie and dark jeans.

Major said investigators do not think the shooting random and have no reason to believe the community is in danger.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or the Anderson County Sheriff's Office at 864-260-4400.
