ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The rescue group taking care of a dog and the kitten she was found nursing said the pair are doing well awaiting a home.

A spokesperson for Anderson County PAWS said the dog and her adopted kitten are still at the shelter because the dog's owners have yet to come forward.

PAWS Director Jessica Cwynar said they believe the dog has an owner and they've received several calls from people claiming to own her, but no one has come in with vet and/or grooming records yet.

Cwynar said they will adopt the pair together once the kitten is old enough or weighs enough to be spayed, unless the dog's owner comes forward.

The pair was rescued by Animal Control Officer Michele Smith last week after the dog was heard barking and found nursing the cat along a ravine in Anderson.
