Henderson County deputies said a new unit working to reduce thefts and burglaries in the county arrested a man they said was involved in a multi-county crime spree.
Major Frank Stout, of the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, said the newly created Directed Enforcement Unit investigated Byron Ward, 42, as a person of interest in several breaking and enterings and larcenies across the county.
Investigators later learned Ward was involved in similar crimes in Buncombe, Polk, Transylvania counties and some in South Carolina, Stout said.
Stout said the crimes were at construction sites, homes, businesses and cars.
Ward was arrested and charged with multiple counts of felony larceny, felony breaking and entering, felony obtaining property by false pretense among several other charges.
Stout said more charges against Ward and other co-conspirators are pending as their investigation continues.
