HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Henderson County deputies said while investigating reports of a shooting, they found a man wanted in a neighboring county.

Deputies said they were called to a home on Haynes Boulevard in the Fruitland area about a shooting around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A vehicle involved was stopped as officers responded and learned a shot had been fired through the floorboard of the car, but no one was injured, deputies said. As deputies arrived at the house, they said they saw a man armed with a rifle walk into the woods who was stopped a little later while walking along Harper Road.

Deputies said the man dropped his rifle when ordered and was also found with a handgun hidden in his pocket.

Deputies arrested the man, identified as 27-year-old William Cox of Asheville, on two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

They said he was wanted in Buncombe County on charges of injury to real property, exceeding a posted speed, driving while license revoked, hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
