GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

After a boat and Jet Ski collided on Lake Greenwood, state agents said a rider who was airlifted to the hospital later died.

South Carolina Department of Natural Resources spokesperson Greg Lucas said the crash happened just before 8:20 p.m. Monday on the lake near the Upper Trestle and the Laurens Shrine Club in Greenwood County.

Lucas said a Yamaha personal watercraft collided head-on with a 21-foot, center-console boat with two people on board.

The Jet Ski's rider was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital where the victim died, Lucas said.

Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox identified the victim as 39-year-old Jeff Cape of Clinton.

Lucas said charges are possible, but the accident remains under investigation. He said this was 10th boating fatality of 2013. In 2012, there were 14.
