SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Chef Eddie Matney is known for his culinary flair and flamboyant appearances on television news programs. Now he'll be known for something else: his arrest on drug charges.

The Valley chef was arrested just after noon on Monday, May 20 for driving with an obscured license plate.

"A subsequent check of his registration showed that to be suspended along with his driving privilege," said Scottsdale police Officer Dave Pubins.

While waiting for a tow truck to arrive, officers allegedly found marijuana in the vehicle.

Matney was booked on charges of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia, both felonies. He was also cited for possessing and driving on a suspended driver's license.

CBS 5 News reached out to Matney at his restaurant, Eddie's House.

"I was pulled over for a traffic infraction last week. A very small amount of marijuana was found with fishing equipment. I don't have any further comment besides apologizing for the distraction this has caused," Matney said in a statement on Tuesday night.
