Deputies: Boy recovering after dog attack

Posted: Updated:

An eight-year-old autistic boy is expected to be OK after Buncombe County deputies said he was attacked by hound dogs Tuesday night.

The Sheriff's office said they responded to a call on Wedgefield Place around 8 p.m. Deputies said the boy was staying at the Roadway Inn and Suites when he wondered into someone's fenced-in yard where four dogs were housed.

Neighbors said they heard the attack and called 911, while another neighbor went into the yard and removed the dogs from the child.

The dogs' owner appears to be in compliance with all ordinances and state laws, according to deputies.

The dogs will be held at the Buncombe County Animal Shelter for a 10-day quarantine period.

The child was taken to Mission Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
