SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The pastor of a Spartanburg church told deputies someone damaged their air conditioning unit when the copper was ripped from its insides.

Spartanburg County deputies said the pastor of Dove Assembly Church on Mount Zion Road called them after discovering the damage.

The pastor found the destruction after noticing their church was warmer than normal Sunday morning, deputies said.

Deputies said the AC unit was last checked on Thursday. The pastor found the industrial-sized unit's panels stacked against the building while the copper pipes had been cut out, deputies said.

The damage was estimated at $12,000, according to the deputy's report.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
