PHOENIX (CBS5) -

It's one thing to have the courage to test your athletic skills against the best of your peers, but one Valley 13-year-old is winning against those much older than her in a sport where you don't find many girls.

Brooke Logan was tired of watching her brother practice and one day decided to give wrestling a try.

"I got a broken finger but I didn't really care, I just keep going," Brooke said.

"She fits right in, she never complains, actually she's one of the tougher ones in the room," coach Eric Brenton said.

At first, facing the older, stronger boys of the Lion's wrestling club in Peoria, Brooke was just happy if she learned a new trick or picked up a point.

Her mother was so worried for her she couldn't even watch.

"As a mom I thought, 'yeah, let's give her a try at that because after two or three practices it will be done. She'll quit,'" Brooke's mom Amanda Logan said.

But quitting is not one of Brooke's moves.

"I don't care if I win. As long as I'm in it, I'm going. But I like winning too," Brooke said.

After just two years of practice, she won the middle school girls state tournament. She took third at the girls high school state tournament and she took third at Greco State Tournament against the boys.

At the end of this month there's a California camp just for girl wrestlers hosted by world class athletes and Olympic champions, but it costs $600 and is a little steep for Brooke's family.

With the help of CBS 5 News, Brooke's coach is awarding her $500 for the camp.

"I'm so happy that this happened. No words can describe how happy that I am to be going to this camp," Brooke said.

Even with the $500, Brooke was $100 short, but another wrestling parent saw what was going on and generously donated the rest on the spot.
