Parents invited to charter school information expo

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

If you've had any interest in enrolling your child in a public charter school you may want to head to Greenville Wednesday.

From 6 to 8 p.m., a number of area charter schools will be on hand for an information expo, answering parent's questions about their programs and upcoming school year.

The expo is being held at the Homewood Suites hotel located at 102 Carolina Point Pkwy., Greenville.

Charter schools are similar to public schools in that they are publicly funded, tuition-free and open to any student who wishes to attend. They differ however, in that Charter schools operate independent from the school district. This means they can offer longer school days, or adjust the curriculum to meet students' needs.

Many charter schools also focus on a particular trade or theme, from technical to college prep schools. The full list of charter schools who will be in attendance at Wednesday's expo include:

  • Palmetto State E-cademy
  • South Carolina Connections Academy
  • SC Whitmore School
  • Provost Academy South Carolina
  • South Carolina Virtual Charter School
  • Cyber Academy of South Carolina
  • Legacy Charter School

This coming school year, there will be nearly 21,000 public school students across the state in 61 public charter schools.
