A Greenville man was sentenced to life in prison without parole after he hired a man to kill the man who was dating his ex-girlfriend, according to solicitors.
Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins said William Phillips, 33, was convicted by a jury of accessory before the fact to murder after evidence presented in the trial showed he hired Jerry Allen Jr. to kill Charlie Roberts on July 8, 2011.
Roberts was killed in Marietta because he was in a relationship with Phillips' former girlfriend, Wilkins said.
Wilkins said Allen pleaded guilty to murder and is awaiting sentencing.
